How Can I Get a FSSAI License Online?

FSSAI registration is Compulsory for anyone involved in the Food related business. Whether it's food processing, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, or retail, you must obtain FSSAI License to run your business. The registration/license is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This institution oversees food businesses based on the guidelines and regulations in the FSSAI Act 2006.

Categories Of FSSAI License in India:

FSSAI Registration – Basic:

  • It is the primary registration type for low-turnover businesses – up to around ₹12 lakhs a year.
  • Regardless of their revenue, Caterers are required to apply for a state license rather than essential FSSAI registration.

FSSAI State License:

  • Businesses with a profit of more than 12 lakhs need a state license.

FSSAI Central License:

  • The central registration of the FSSAI primary license is for larger companies with an annual turnover of more than ₹20 crores.
  • Also, companies supplying Food to authorities/ministries, importing/exporting Food, operating an online platform, operating franchise companies, or employing hotel/restaurant chains must obtain a central license.

Who Must Register With The FSSAI?

From street vendors and home vendors to giant grocery chains, everyone involved in the food industry is required to register with the FSSAI. You must note whether you trade online or offline, are a local actor, or import or export food with the FSSAI. Step Wise Registration Procedure For FSSAI License:

In other words, a person or company that deals in food substances from farm to plate must obtain the FSSAI food license.

Step 1: Food business operators must register with the Registration Authority by filing a registration fee of Rs. 100/- for one year.

Step 2: Catering operators are required to complete the 'Form A' application form after registration with a fee of Rs. 100/-

Step 3: The applicant will be given a unique 14-digit application reference number after submitting the form.

Step 4: Within seven days after submitting the form, the Registration Authority (RA) will either issue the Certificate of Registration or reject the application, depending on the review and observation.

Step 5: The food business operator can start the business once he has received the certificate of approval from the registration authority.

Step 6: If required, RA can issue an inspection notice, and the order will be placed within seven days.

Step 7: The inspection will be carried out in 30 days and published so the food business operator can start the business.

Information to be sent in the registration form:

Applicant's name, company, address, e-mail address, mobile phone number, user ID, password, and agreement to the Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) Terms of Service.

Penalty For Not Registering As Per FSSAI Guidelines:

A food business operator (FBO) who runs their business without registering under FSSAI may face imprisonment and an FSSAI license penalty of up to ₹ five lakhs for the same.

Required Documents for FSSAI Registration:

Depending on the different types of registration and the food business you operate, you will need to submit other documents for registration.

FSSAI Registration:

  • Authorized Person Passport Photo [Self-Certified]
  • Authorized Person Aadhar Card Front and Back [Self-Certified]
  • Proof of Address of Business Premises [Lease Agreement/Previous Month Electricity Bill/NOC of Lessor]
  • Signature of Authorized Person

State and Central License:

  • Passport photograph of directors/partners/owners.
  • Proof of Identity of Directors/Partners/Owners [Aadhar and PAN].
  • Proof of address of commercial premises [lease agreement / previous month's utility bill/owner's NOC].
  • Photography of the premises [8-9 photos].
  • Plan(Blueprint) of the premises.
  • Food list on company letterhead [with stamp and signature]
  • Machinery list (if available) on company letterhead [with stamp and signature]

Manufacture Units:

  • The production units, in addition to the above documents, must also provide the following documents:
  • Plan (Blueprint) of the warehouse, factory, etc.
  • List of machinery.
  • Report on a water test.
  • List of all food categories
