Grishneshwar Shiva Temple is one of the most revered and ancient temples in India, located in the village of Verul, near Ellora caves in the state of Maharashtra. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the major deities in Hinduism. It is also known as Ghushmeshwar Temple and is considered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are believed to be the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva.
The temple's architecture is a combination of South Indian and North Indian styles and dates back to the 18th century. It is built of red rock and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures. The temple complex also includes a sacred pond called Shivalaya, where devotees take a holy dip before entering the temple.
According to Hindu mythology, the temple is associated with an interesting legend. It is said that a woman named Kusuma worshipped Lord Shiva with great devotion and offered him a bowl of sweet pudding made of rice and milk. Impressed by her devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her and granted her a boon. Kusuma asked the Lord to remain in the form of a Jyotirlinga at that place forever so that devotees could worship him. It is believed that the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is the manifestation of Lord Shiva's gratitude towards Kusuma's devotion.
The temple attracts a large number of devotees from all over the country, especially during the festival of Maha Shivratri. The temple also celebrates other Hindu festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Navratri with great enthusiasm.
In recent years, the temple has undergone significant renovations to improve its infrastructure and facilities for devotees. The temple has accommodation facilities, restaurants, and shops selling religious items for the convenience of devotees.
