Where is Vantawng Falls Located? 📍
Vantawng Falls is situated in Serchhip district, about 137 km from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. It lies near a quaint village called Thenzawl, which is gaining popularity among nature enthusiasts and eco-tourists.
What Makes Vantawng Falls So Special? ✨
Standing tall at 750 feet (229 meters), Vantawng Falls is the highest waterfall in Mizoram and the 13th highest waterfall in India. What makes it even more fascinating is the thick forest and rocky terrain surrounding it. The water cascades down like a silver ribbon, almost resembling white smoke amid the greenery—an unforgettable sight for any traveler.
Interestingly, the name "Vantawng" is derived from a legendary Mizo swimmer named Vantawnga, who was so skilled that he could hover in the water like a fish. Unfortunately, he was crushed by a falling log during one of his swims at the falls, hence the name.
